Together in the wild
My partner visited New Zealand from the UK to bridge our long-distance relationship and we packed a lot of adventure into the two weeks we had together. I’d recently invested in a tripod to capture our special moments, as I knew we’d often be alone in the great New Zealand outdoors. This photo captured the essence of our brief special time together in a beautiful part of the South Island. - Mt Crichton Loop Track, Queenstown.
Can you spot the sandfly?
I took the photo of my brother while paddling down the Whanganui River as part of the Te Araroa Trail. - Whanganui River.
High tide
This photo before crossing the river by boat. - Ngunguru.
True North
A slow new years day spent orientating ourself form one rock to another. - Castle Hill/ Kura Tawhiti Conservation Area - Canterbury.
Surface Current
Swimming in the beautiful kahurangi of Mata-Au -- 'Surface Current' -- the Clutha River. - Clutha River, Roxburgh.
Big Bath
This image is shot on a Pentax ME Super using Kodak 400 film. The lake was formed after decades of gold mining on Kildare Hill. Mining operations halted when the pit began to encroach on the historic town that bordered the mine. Over time, the pit gradually filled with water, transforming into the beautiful Blue Lake we see today. I think this image illustrates another Natures remarkable ability to reclaim what is rightfully hers. - St Bathans, Central Otago.
Crispy Curlies
This was taken on a little day hike along the Wentworth River. We tried to go there a couple of years ago but bad rains meant the ford was too flooded to cross. This summer we were lucky with the sunshine! - Wentworth Valley, Whangamatā.
The World-Famous Seaweed of Aotearoa
With the whale-watching tours cancelled, these ladies made their way to the Kaikōura Seal Colony, still eager to capture the essence of an Aotearoa summer - this time with our world-famous seaweed! - Kaikōura.
Three legs one afternoon
My mate Jaime and a few friends hosted a micro festival at her family home in Opoutere for the end of 2024. On the second morning/night we organised and hosted a games day with multiple events including three legged race, sand castle building and boat races. At the beginning of the evening we drove around on hazardous golf buggies with the speed monitors having been removed; to round people up for the night. New Zealand classic I fear. - Jaime’s Bach in Opoutere, NZ
We threw him back
Granddaddy Hapuka caught at Jaz’s grandparents favourite fishing spot just off shore of the karikari peninsula. - Te Tai Tokerau.
Tractor, trailer and tranquility
A lone tractor rests on the beach, while a boat gently drifts out to sea. Another peaceful summer’s day in Aotea, captured on 35mm film. - Great Barrier Island, New Zealand.
cooling off
This is a friend of mine cooling off in the hot weather. I took this in January on Rollei RPX25 using a Pentax Spotmatic F and a 55 mm SMC Takumar lens, then developed it in Kodak HC-110 and digitised the negative with a mirrorless. - swimming pool at mate’s house, Wānaka.
Eggs!
beginnings of breakfast for the last day of camping, we used up everything we had. One plate has a gf wrap while one is missing an egg for our vegan friend. :):) - Cobb Valley (Twisted Frequency).
Sentinel of the hill
among the rolling hills of Waitomo Caves, a lone sheep stands at the top, surveying his domain. Taken along the Te Araroa trail, this image captures the solitude and quiet beauty of New Zealand’s landscape. - near Waitomo Caves.
Past Time
During my five-month exploration of New Zealand, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the captivating landscapes and rich cultural heritage of the country. One of the most memorable places I visited was the town of Taumarunui, nestled along the serene Whanganui River. As I wandered beside the flowing waters, I witnessed a beautiful embodiment of Maori culture. Families gathered, children joyfully swam, and teens skillfully practiced their manu's, a traditional diving technique. It was a powerful moment, seeing this age-old past-time thrive and continue to bring communities together. The scene was a stunning testament to the timeless connection between people and place, reminding me of the enduring beauty of cultural traditions. - North Island NZ.
A postcard from Southern Alps
Photo of enormous Mt. Sefton and a little, cosy alpine hut taken on one very hot and very sunny day in Aoraki National Park. - Aoraki National Park
Gravity Play
In summer we remember how to play. We remember to play with the ocean, to play with each other, and to play with gravity. In this image, two close friends run through free fall down a giant dune towards the ocean’s weightless embrace. This is summer in Aotearoa. - Mangawhai.
That’s f*cking delicious!
There’s more than one way to quench your thirst after a day roasting on the beach with mates. - Whangamatā.
Summer lake dip
Found the perfect little gem of a swim spot while hiking in the West Coast of Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). - Bethells, Tāmaki Makaurau.
Post jump
This image encapsulates a young summer tradition. It was taken the moment my friends were submerged in water after jumping off rocks. The water leaving a trail from their impact. Captured on my Canon T70 using Kodak gold 200 35mm film. - Crayfish bay, Coromandel.
